Lisa, once a brilliant playwright, no longer writes. She has given up her ambitions as a playwright in Berlin and moved to Switzerland with her children and husband. But her heart remains in Berlin, beating in time with that of her twin brother Sven, the famous theatre actor. When Sven falls ill with leukaemia, Lisa returns to the German capital and does everything in her power to bring Sven back on stage to give him the strength he needs to fight the disease. For her soulmate she neglects everything else and even risks losing her husband. But when his condition deteriorates and his mother, also an actress, proves unreliable, Lisa takes the reins and whisks her brother to Switzerland. This complex situation reflects her deepest longings and awakens in her the desire to be creative, to feel alive again.
