Júlio is a 19 years old boy who moves to Lisbon to work as a shoemaker and try to change his life. However, on the day he arrives in the city, an accident makes him meet Ilda, a girl with the same age, a maid in a building near to Julio’s workplace. The two begin to fall in love, a feeling that is stronger to Júlio. The young man, however, feeling himself in a strange and hostile place, becomes increasingly jealous, and permanently distrusts Ilda.
