Irene and her husband Jairo own a small coal pit on the back of their home, in a small city in Brazil. They take care of their young boy, Jean, as well as her father, a man who spends his days in bed, and can’t speak or listen. Everything changes when they accept to welcome in the house a mysterious man in exchange for a considerable amount of money. The arrival of the man, an unsympathetic guy who doesn’t speak Portuguese, transforms the dynamics of Irene’s family, not necessarily for the better. Besides finding themselves at risk, they wonder if that situation is worth putting up with.
