Tales From the Gimli Hospital (1988)

Sobre o filme

The first feature film of the Canadian director is about two patients in the very weird Gimli Hospital, during a variola epidemic in the end of the 19th century. Two children go to the hospital to see the mother who is dying. To entertain them, the grandmother tells the tale about Einar, the Lonely. In the tale, the small fishing village in Iceland lives a variola epidemic that disfigures its victim’s faces. Einar and Gunnar are two men in quarantine who share the same hospital room. Isolated from the world, they start to talk about important facts of their lives. Gunnar reveals that he murdered his wife, contaminating her with the disease. Einar confesses that he profaned a young girl’s grave and had sexual relations with the corpse. As they get to know each other, Einar and Gunnar find out that they have a lot more in common than they had thought.
