In focus, a decisive phase in the life of Jean-Benoît, a boy of seventeen who lives with his mother on the outskirts of Rouen. Shaken by his father?s suicide, he lives in a state of unbalance. Late summer, he is admitted to a machine shop to learn mechanics and to fulfill a promise made to his father, namely, to train for a profession. He has two years to master the trade. Training is multiple, both on the job and in life itself. The course is fraught with difficulty, but Jean-Benoît can count on his girlfriend Helen’s providential support. She is still in her teens, but extremely mature. Filmed over the course of three years, the film proves, equally, to be a training ground and reflection on life.
