Forest of the Gods (2005)

Sobre o filme

The Second World War: a Lithuanian poet, writer, and professor of literature, Balis Sruage, identified in the film as "the professor" is arrested by the Gestapo after having encouraged his students not to join the German army. He is taken to a concentration camp in the forest known to Lithuanians as Forest of the Gods. The professor learns to deal with the structure of power in the concentration camp where, with every passing day, life becomes more and more absurd, as the end of the war draws close. Survival depends on each one learning how to live like an animal and overcome human emotion. After he is free, the professor writes a play about the concentration camp. But the communist Soviets find the plot imprudent. The opening night and performances are canceled and the play is forbidden. The man is destroyed and returns to the concentration camp in his imagination where death awaits him. Based on a true story.
