Heimat 3.1 - The Happiest People in the World (2004)

Sobre o filme

On the historic night of November 9th, 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell, Hermann Simon and Clarissa Lichtblau reencounter each other by mere chance. Surrounded by the euphoria of the celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate, the mark of a divided Berlin and now occupied by Germans from both sides, the ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend hug each other. It’s been many years since they met, so they bring each other up to date. Hermann has become a well known maestro and Clarissa, a respected singer. But, all in all, they both lead a solitary life a long way from one another, always travelling for work without time to form stable relationships. In a hotel room they make love, as the television transmits scenes of celebration of a reunited Germany. After, they drive along the road now open in any direction. Hermann sleeps in the passenger seat. When he wakes, he finds that Clarissa has taken him back to his birthplace, Schabbach, which he left behind in direction of Munich, where he hoped to achieve his artistic dreams. It will be a chance to revisit his brothers, Ernst and Anton, who stayed on there. Close by on a hill covered by vines, is the house of Clarissa’s dreams. It is Günderodde house, the old residence of the romantic poet Caroline von Günderodde, where the singer now lives. Putting his initial reticence aside, Herman agrees. And the new couple contract workers to begin reforming their future home, which currently lies in ruins.
