The death of Ulla, the family matriarch, is to jeopardize all of the harmony prevailing until then in this prosaic Danish home. John, the father has lived for 46 years never concerned with his own fate or that of his children, for, after all, Ulla took care of everything. Eva, the older daughter, has always been regarded as the black sheep of the family. She is gifted artistically, but has given up all for a peaceful life in the country. Tom, the middle son, has always been a successful entrepreneur and Mother’s darling. Marianne, the youngest, has never had to worry in life. Now, all is about to fall to ruins. The family harmony will have to adapt should it survive. Ulla’s death is to serve as motivation so that all may re-think their role in the family context and reorganize their lives.
