Criminal (2004)

Sobre o filme

The American version for the Argentinean film Nine Queens (2000), by Fabián Bielinsky. The starting point for the film is an LA casino, where the young Rodrigo is caught by the security guards trying to pass a counterfeit 100-dollar bill. An older and more experienced conman, Richard Gaddis, watches the whole scene from a distance and intervenes by pretending to be a cop and arresting the criminal. As they leave the place, Richard explains to the rookie that he is temporarily in need of a partner for a few “jobs”. Even though Rodrigo is initially suspicious of the man, he agrees to go into partnership as his father has run up some serious gambling debts. After pulling off a few small scams, both men come across the opportunity for the big one when they check into the luxurious hotel where Valerie e Michael, Richard’s sister and brother, work. Both nurse a deep hatred for their bother due to a dispute over a family will. Meanwhile, a collector of old coins turns into the new swindlers’ target. This time, there’s half a million bucks up for grabs and they mean business.
