Moolaadé (2002)

Sobre o filme

In an African village, the inhabitants still adhere to the brutal custom of circumcising all female children in an operation that is painful, brutal, and feared by all. Six little girls between the ages of 4 and 9 are destined to undergo the ritual on one specific day. Such is the degree of terror that two of them choose to drown themselves in the village well rather than submit to violence. The remaining four seek protection from Colle, a woman who did not allow her own daughter to be mutilated, by calling on "mooladé" (divine protection), indicated by a colored cord. While they wear the cord, no one in the village may touch them. But several of the men put pressure on Colle?s husband so that he will remove the protection from his daughter, even if this means he will have to whip her.
