Play (2005)

Sobre o filme

A view of human relations, following the course of two losers who, gradually, reconstruct their lives in parallel and, indirectly, exert an influence on each other without, however, having direct contact. Cristina, a demure young nurse from up-country, adapts to life in the city while caring for an old Hungarian patient, her only moments of amusement being to go on walks in her neighborhood or to play Street Fighter in a games parlor. Tristán is an architect who feels motivated neither by his job nor by his marriage, gives up both, and goes back to his mother?s house. But he is victim to an attack in which he loses his suitcase, with documents, cigarettes, photographs, a lighter, and his iPod. Cristina finds the suitcase and is tempted to meet the owner in the hope that her day-to-day existence will prove less solitary and apathetic. Although it is realistic, the film makes use of poetic license, whether in the use of songs and sound collage, or in the animated sequence in the manner of a game, or also, in the delicate, surrealistic scene in which a moth emerges from Tristan?s mouth. This is a film of clear feminine sensitivity.
