Silvestre (1981)

Sobre o filme

The story for the film was drawn from two traditional Portuguese novels: ‚ÄòA Donzela que Vai à Guerra‚Äô, Jewish, peninsular, in origin, and ‚ÄòA Mão do Finado‚Äô, a story passed down by oral tradition that is part of the Barba Azul cycle. D. Rodrigo has two daughters, one legitimate and the other not, Sílvia and Susana. He is old and has no male heir and decides he will marry Sílvia off to a rich nobleman, D. Paio, his neighbor, in order to increase his domains. After a quick visit from the bridegroom, an inveterate womanizer, D. Rodrigo travels to court and invites the king to the wedding. He recommends his daughters not open the door to anyone. One day, however, a pilgrim asks for help and, disobeying her father’ orders, Sílvia eventually opens the doors of the great house to him and more. The film launched actress Maria de Medeiros in cinema.
