Sneakers (2004)

Sobre o filme

One of the greatest icons of modern life, the sneakers have an indisputable cultural significance. This kind of footwear - formerly worn only by the lower classes : today has a world-class appeal and is the theme of this documentary. It regards the tennis shoes as a form of individual identification with subcultures and as a tool of rebelliousness against the establishment. In the 60’, sneakers were worn by countless social movement activists. In the following decade, they were popular among greasers, the white and poor youths from the American suburbs. In the mid-70’, punks wore torn and scuffed sneakers. Pictures, TV commercials and film footage are used to explore the sneakers world, which is inhabited by ordinary people, fashion designers, brand strategists, and collectors.
