The Divorce (2002)
Sobre o filme
A comedy of manners involving two American sisters in Paris. Isabel Walker, a typical youngster from California, arrives in Paris to visit her pregnant sister, Roxy, who has just asked her husband for a divorce. Isabel falls for a French married diplomat, uncle of her sister?s ex-husband and becomes his mistress. The irrepressible American idealism of the Walker sisters is a shock to the sophistication and rationalism of the Persand Family when, in the apportionment, Roxy comes off with an extremely valuable painting. Based on the best-seller by the same name by Diane Johnson, the film explores the difference in culture between the two countries in relation to morals, sex, food, clothing, and lifestyle. The Divorce is the 33rd production of director James Ivory with producer Ismail Merchant, a rare incursion of the twosome in contemporary days. This is the tenth film in collaboration with scriptwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. Together they made A Room with a View (1986), Maurice (1987), Howards End (1992), and The Remains of the Day (1993).
