Cristiano Burlan

Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1975. He is a film and theater director, screenwriter, and professor. He grew up in Sao Paulo’s outskirts, a reality that deeply shaped his vision of the world and which is reflected in his films’ social, political and personal themes — many of his movies approach urban violence, grieving and family relationships. He directed feature films like “Arid Hearts” (2006, 30th Mostra), “Symphony of a Lonely Man” (2012, 36th Mostra), “Mataram Meu Irmão” (2013), “Hamlet” (2014), “Hunger” (2015, 39th Mostra), “The Loneliness Night” (2016, 40th Mostra), “Before the End” (2017, 41st Mostra), “The Mother” (2022, 46th Mostra), awarded at the Málaga Film Festival, and “Ulysses” (2024, 48th Mostra).
