Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1975. He is a film and theatre director and teacher. In the 1990’s, Burlan lived in Barcelona, where he directed the experimental cinema group Super-8. He directed short films such as A Espera (2004) and Lucrecia (2007, 31st Mostra). Arid Hearts (2006), his first feature film, was screened at the 30th Mostra. He is also the director of feature like Symphony of a Lonely Man (2012, 36th Mostra), Mataram Meu Irmão (2013), Hamlet (2014), Hunger (2015, 39th Mostra), The Loneliness Night (40th Mostra) and Before the End (2017, 41st Mostra).
