Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, in 1969. Russian stage, television and film director, he was the artistic director of the Gogol Center from 2012 until 2021. Serebrennikov directed, among others, the feature films "Ragin" (2004), "Playing the Victim" (2006), "Yuriev Den" (2008), "Betrayal" (2012), "The Student" (2016, 40th Mostra), "Summer" (2018, 42nd Mostra) and "Petrov’s Flu" (2021, 45th Mostra) presented and awarded at film festivals like Cannes, Venice, Locarno, San Sebastián, Tribeca and Karlovy Vary.
