Born in Pakistan. He made among others the short films Nice Talking to You (2018) and Darling (2019), the first Pakistani film to premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Orizzonti Prize for Best Short Film. Darling was also an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival, and won a Special Jury Mention award at South by Southwest. Joyland is his debut feature film.
