Tizza Covi was born in Bolzano, Italy, in 1971, while Rainer Frimmel was born in Vienna that same year. They both studied photography at the Vienna Higher College for Graphic Art. Since 1996, they have worked together in photography, stage and film projects. Together, they directed the feature films "La Pivellina" (2009, 33rd Mostra), Austria’s official entry for the Oscar and awarded at the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes; "The Shine of Day" (2012, 37th Mostra), which won three awards at Locarno Film Festival, including the best actor for Walter Saabel; and "Mister Universo" (2016), winner of the international critics’ award at Locarno.
