He studied cinema at Universidade Federal Fluminense, in Rio de Janeiro. He began his career as an assistant director of short films. He directed the medium-length film Vênus de Fogo (1992) and a few TV programs. His first feature film was the documentary Lingua - Lives in Portuguese (2003, 27th Mostra). He also directed The Adventures of Agamenon, the Reporter (2012) and Serra Pelada - The Naked Mountain (2013).
