Ideas — the starting point of any audiovisual project — will again, in 2022, have a space dedicated to fostering, debating and negotiating them at the São Paulo International Film Festival.

The II Audiovisual Ideas Market is even broader and more intersectional, which reflects the state of the market itself. It will take place from the 26th to the 29th of October at the Cinemateca Brasileira, and will encompass: the VI Fórum Mostra, the VI Da Palavra à Imagem (VI From Word to Image) along with its pitching session, and the II Encontro de Negócios (II Business Meeting).

Reaching its sixth edition this year, Forum focuses once more on central issues within contemporary cinema. Public policy pertaining to the industry and regulatory issues, discussed yearly during Forum’s meetings, return once again alongside topics such as the assignment of rights to property of Brazilian productions to platforms, technical challenges and political meanings within film restoration, and cultural legislation as a whole.

The Market Panels offer discussions proposed by market players and partners of Mostra. More than 50 representatives of the audiovisual industry will discuss, in a total of 14 panels, topics they consider relevant and present their projects and line-ups. Access to market panel discussions is free.

The will also be the From Word to Image Pitching Session. During Mostra and under the coordination of literary editor Paulo Werneck, authors and book publishers present works with potential for screen adaptation, be it in feature-film or series format. In this edition, five titles will be pitched, and selected works will be announced at the event itself only.

During the Market’s four days of the II Business Meeting, the Cinemateca Brasileira will also host business rounds between projects under development and potential partners — producers, distributors, international sales agents and funds. Only previously registered producers will be allowed to participate in the fifteen-minute pitching sessions.

In Cinemateca’s foyer, over the course of this four-day programme, there’ll also be book launches, activation space for producers, distributors, institutions and service providers, space for networking meetings and haute cuisine food trucks, contributing to a relaxed atmosphere and, above all, an intense exchange of ideas.
